Celebrating the Heart of Marten Transport
At Marten Transport, our drivers are the heartbeat of our company. Every mile they drive, every delivery they make, and every challenge they overcome keeps America moving forward. This Valentine’s Day, we’re taking a moment to celebrate the incredible individuals behind the wheel—their passion, dedication, and the stories that make Marten more than just a company. We’re a family.
We asked our drivers to share what they love about their careers, the moments that make them proud, and the connections they’ve built along the way. Their stories remind us why trucking isn’t just a job—it’s a way of life.
Rebecca Dawn Ling: A Lifetime on the Road
With over 40 years in trucking—eight of them with Marten—Rebecca Dawn Ling has built a career fueled by passion and perseverance. Based out of Tampa, FL, she fell in love with trucking at a young age, first riding alongside a horse hauler at just eight years old and later working at a truck stop in high school.
Despite an industry that once told women they couldn’t drive trucks, Rebecca proved them wrong. She sought out a mentor, mastered the craft, and has since built a career that’s not only rewarding but also allows her to mentor new drivers navigating the same challenges she once faced.
“I love meeting people and traveling to new places,” she says. But what truly sets Marten apart for her? Their professionalism and responsiveness—especially when it comes to ensuring drivers are heard. “When I was choosing my next company, I wanted to know that they valued senior drivers and listened to women in trucking. Marten does that.”
Her advice to aspiring truck drivers?
"Trucking companies are like shoes—find the one that fits you best. And communication is everything. Take your time, get out and look, and focus on one mile at a time."
Thomas Trainer: Living Life on His Own Terms
For Thomas Trainer, trucking is about more than just making a living—it’s about freedom. Based in Tampa, FL, Thomas has been a truck driver for 30 years, spending the last four with Marten. His career allows him to support his passion for medieval reenactment, travel the country, and maintain a lifestyle that he enjoys.
“I don’t have anyone micromanaging me, and that works great for me,” he says. “Marten’s benefits and guaranteed pay sealed the deal for me when choosing where to drive.”
The independence of life on the road has also given him financial stability. With lower living expenses, Thomas is able to save for retirement and work toward his long-term goal of buying land.
One of his favorite moments? The universal trucking tradition of kids (and even adults) signals for the horn. “A few weeks ago, I was stuck in traffic next to a school. The kids all ran to the fence, cranking their arms for the horn—I had to do it!”
His advice to new drivers?
"Trucking gives you freedom, but it takes responsibility. Find a company that understands your needs, and build a solid relationship with your management team—it makes all the difference."
