Sam Johnson: 30 Years of Exemplary Service
Starting as an OTR driver in 1994, Sam Johnson hauled freight across the country in all kinds of weather for 25 years before transitioning to a regional position. Reflecting on his journey, Sam highlights the evolution of equipment as the most significant change, with technology continuously improving the trucks. He has met many good people along his journey and never had to worry about his paycheck, even during economic shifts. Sam achieved his Million Miles in 2007 and 2 Million Miles in 2015 and will be inducted into the 3 Million Mile Club in 2024—a testament to his unwavering commitment to excellence.
Julie Chapin: Three Decades of Operational Excellence
Julie Chapin recently celebrated 30 years with Marten and reflected on her experience in Operations. She describes her time with our team as more than just a job, highlighting the deep connections forged over time. Julie says, “Working at Marten has been more than just a job; it’s been a journey with an extended family. The warm, family atmosphere and the genuine friendships formed over the years have made every day a pleasure.”
Jim Swan: From Truck #73 to Extended Shift Supervisor
Jim Swan’s journey with Marten began in 1983 with truck #73. He transitioned to a dispatcher role in 1993 and now serves as an Extended Shift Supervisor, witnessing numerous changes throughout the years. He fondly recalls the days when loads were manually written on load sheets and handed to the CSR. Jim's dedication is evident in his 31 years of service, during which time he has seen the company grow and adapt, but what’s always stayed the same is his pride in working with Marten.
Randall Wood: Over 2 Million Safe Miles
Randall Wood has driven over 2 million safe miles with Marten. His career began after a 30-minute interview with Roger Marten and a four-day orientation where Roger himself shared lunch with the class. “Roger promised that his drivers would not be treated like other drivers,” Randall said. He notes the significant changes in communication over the years, from phones at truck stops to the early adoption of Qualcomm. His journey with Marten is marked by a commitment to safety and the truth of the promise that Roger made that day.
Matthew Stewart: Versatility and Team Spirit
Matthew Stewart’s career at Marten spans various roles, from working in the tractor and trailer shops to his current position as a custodian in Mondovi, Wisc. Matthew has witnessed Marten’s growth from just three terminals to the bustling network it is today. His fondest memories revolve around the wonderful people he has worked with, appreciating teamwork and everyone’s willingness to help each other out.
David Guthmiller: Celebrating 3 Million Safe Miles
David Guthmiller recently celebrated his 3 Million Mile Safe Driving Award, marking over 30 years with Marten since 1993. David has seen many good people come and go but appreciates the stable miles and reliable pay. His love for driving and Marten’s growth from a few terminals to a nationwide presence keeps him motivated and satisfied.
Charles Tederman: 4 Million Miles and Counting
Charles Tederman’s remarkable truck driving career began in 1962; he joined Marten in 1993. Charles’ dedication to trucking is evident through his huge achievement of 4 million miles behind the wheel. He values the freedom of the open road, the support from his family, and the camaraderie at Marten. Even as he contemplates retirement, Charlie’s love for driving keeps him going strong.
Mark Lowthorp: Over Three Decades of Dedication
Mark’s 31-plus years at Marten have allowed him to meet people from all over the world and work with a dedicated team of professionals. He appreciates Marten’s commitment to driver support through policies like weather pay, breakdown pay, and detention. Mark is grateful for the industry-leading equipment and the vision of Roger and Randy Marten that has guided the company to success. “Marten is way ahead of the rest of the industry in supporting the driver. The equipment I have had over the years has always been above the industry average,” he said.
